Start your mini-adventure with the short but fascinating drive from Arusha up the lush slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to the village of Materuni, approximately 1,800 m above sea level. This is market garden territory and has the perfect mixture of climate and soil to produce some of the best coffee in Africa.
You’ll visit a coffee farm and learn about how coffee is grown, harvested and processed, and you’ll try your hands at roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way. After a delightful coffee break you’ll take a beautiful 45-minute hike through the hills and valleys en route to the Materuni falls.
Later you will be heading to Chemka Hot spring, an oasis of geothermal warmth surrounded by lush forest, birdsong, and natural beauty. This is probably the best place to swim, with fresh, clear, and naturally heated water perfect for relaxation after a day of exploration.

You'll pass through banana and coffee plantations, up and down mini-valleys, across ridges and through narrow splashing rivulets. Along the way your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine, as well as giving you more insight into the local Chagga culture. Later you will be heading to Chemka Hot spring
Chemka Hot Spring
Chemka Hot Springs, an oasis of geothermal warmth that bubbles up from underground. This is surrounded by lush forest alive with birdsong and the call of monkeys, the Chemka Hot Springs is an ideal place to ease those tired legs after a strenuous ascent up Kilimanjaro. They're a little bit of heaven that's perfect for a day trip, and those warm blue waters invite you to linger, swim or explore.
This is probably the best place to swim. Emanating from within the earth, the geo-thermally warmed water is constantly renewed and is therefore very fresh, clear and clean. It's a very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours with family, or to relax after safari. After a whole day relaxation and enjoyment you will be transferred back to Arusha for other own arrangements
